Behind the data are our world-class thought leaders. Over the next few months, we will be introducing you to the people responsible for Comperemedia’s industry expertise.

Anjali Ambani, Senior Analyst

Anjali Ambani is a London-based Senior Research Analyst for Comperemedia, responsible for custom and syndicated financial services reporting.

Q: What topics do you specialize in?

A: I specialize in direct marketing strategies and competitive marketing intelligence within the financial services industry, especially banking and credit cards.

Q: How did you get to where you are now?

A: I started my career in investment banking. It wasn’t long before I realized that I loved the research and competitive strategy aspect of the job, amidst all the number crunching. I explored several roles in the financial services industry, such as working as an investor relations associate and providing competitive assessments on the US regulatory landscape. Throughout this phase of my career, I was constantly looking forward to getting into a role which not only lets me use my data analysis acumen but also gives me the liberty to present my insights and understanding of the industry. Eventually, I found Comperemedia and loved how, from the very beginning of my interactions with the team here, I was familiarized to the company values—being entrepreneurial and straight forward. Today, I enjoy every part of my role, from analyzing industry trends using Comperemedia Omni to presenting actionable and impactful insights that help steer clients in their business decision making.

Q: If you could have lunch with anyone in your industry, who would it be and why?

A: Ajay Banga, President and CEO of Mastercard. Mastercard’s performance has been on the rise from the time he joined the company. I like his vision of leadership and also admire his sense of diversity. His beliefs of developing a global view and never stopping to question yourself are something that I take into account in my own life.

Q: Tell us about a brand campaign or shift in strategy that has recently caught your eye?

A: American Express’s Refer-a-Friend and Get Referred campaigns. American Express has been continuously pushing its referral program to enhance customer relationships. It has been using generational marketing language to appeal to young cohorts and their lifestyle, signaling its reliance on word-of-mouth marketing strategy. Earlier this year, it promoted “Get Referred” campaigns across online/mobile channels that are a huge testament to how much the company trusts its existing customers.

Q: What is your favorite part about your job?

A: The people and the culture! I am mesmerized by the amount of knowledge our team possesses and how far each person is willing to go to ensure we bring outstanding insights to the table. I look forward to work each day, especially the great, positive company culture we have!

Q: Last but not least, tell a fun fact about yourself.

A: I love cooking! I consider cooking a very relaxing task and I believe it helps create bonds with others. Considering I was born and raised in India, a love of homemade food comes naturally to me. I also like to try my hand at preparing global cuisines. And, I can assure you that if you are ever invited to my place, you won’t go home hungry!
